The Andaz Mayakoba in Riviera Maya is finally here! The hotly-anticipated opening of the property came just weeks before the new year and debuted as the brand’s first property in Mexico. Located just north of Playa del Carmen, the hotel sits on 590 acres of oceanfront property and was designed by architect and Costa Rican native Ronald Zürcher.
Drawing on the property’s natural surroundings, Zürcher’s design mimics nature’s, wild and organic forms and shapes. Inside, the hotel features blues, deep greens and the colors of the toucan bird for public spaces. The property is also home to a spa, fitness center, beachside pool and 14,000 square feet of event and meeting spaces.
Boasting 214 guestrooms and suites, the resort’s accommodations include breezy, open layouts with refined artisan décor. Rooms feature curved roofs, neutral color schemes and a balcony or terrace overlooking the gardens, mangroves, lagoon, or the Caribbean Sea. Guests booking one of the luxury suites will find “area rugs” crafted from a collection of locally-produced Mexican cement tiles as well as private plunge pools.
Among its amenities are four restaurant concepts by the signature Casa Amate Latin American eatery. The venues showcase fresh local ingredients, authentic cooking techniques and range from casual street food fare to creative upscale cuisine. The 10,000-square-foot Naum Spa includes six treatment rooms and utilizes Mayan methods and locally-sourced ingredients, hand-selected for the hotel.
Thanks to its location, guests can easily meander over to Playa de Carmen’s main hub filled with local shops, bars, and restaurants. Those staying within the property also have access to the El Camaleón 18-hole golf course, the Mayakoba Tennis Centre, and a variety of outdoor activities. Rooms begin at around $650 a night.
