Believe it or not airline tickets as well as cruises have days where you can save hundreds, even thousands of dollars that you could use to have more fun at your destination. A recent study by Expedia and the Airlines Reporting Corporation said there really is an optimal time to get the best fares on airline tickets.
Many times travelers try to research or guess which day or time is best. We’ve all heard the theories “Tuesdays at 2am are the best time to purchase”. Or the rumor that you need to book at least two months in advance. According to AirFareWatchDog.com you should look four times a day, every day of the week, as far in advance as you can.
The latest study by Expedia and the Airlines Reporting Corporation says that 2017 could turn out to be a good year for travelers taking flight because of the proven ideal time to reserve your seat. Based on billions of flights from January 1, 2016, through October 24, 2016 the study concluded that the best day to buy airline tickets is Sunday, especially if you’re booking more than 21 days in advance. Weekends are generally a good time to buy, but not Fridays, since there’s an uptick then in business travel bookings.
Greg Schulze VP for Expedia commercial strategies “For today’s traveler, this confluence of circumstances—more planes, lower prices, more destinations—is exceptional,” he stated from the 2017 Global Air Travel Outlook report. “It means that the barriers to booking a dream trip are lowered. It also means that everyday travel—flights to see the family, work trips—are likely to be easier to book at a lower price.”
So put a little effort into purchasing airline tickets and you may be flying in the front of the plane for what you should have paid for the dreaded back of the bus.
