Prints, patterns, and textures, oh my! If there is any one cohesive theme to this resort season’s latest trends, it is mixing things up with regard to textiles that make up your wardrobe. With polka dots, tie-dye, stripes, and animal prints all taking center stage, in 2017 it is all about the prints and textures livening up relatively basic silhouettes.
Here are some of our “best of” trends for Resortwear 2016/2017…
Stripes. Especially in bold colors or pastels suitable for a tropical environment. These are mostly thick, evenly spaced stripes that make a statement, not preppy seersucker (although that never goes out of style).
Tie-Dye. This is more high end than the rainbow tie-dye looks that you might associate with the Grateful Dead. Softer colors, less contrast, and more of a batik feel make this tie-dye grown up.
Ruffles. This feminine trend is in full swing this resort season, with tiered skirts and off the shoulder blouses being some of the more traditional options. Ruffles are also popping up in unexpected places.
Plaid. Always a classic for fall, this season it gets a resort twist in bright and sunny saturated pastels. It’s time to reach for the the madras, gingham, windowpane, and any of type of shorts, button-downs, and dresses in this popular print.
Crochet. There’s something that’s perpetually bohemian-chic about crochet, so a tunic or beach cover-up in the knit is perfect for beachside living this season.
Polka Dots. Everything from dotted Swiss to oversize dots is popular now, and the print looks especially good paired with the also popular stripes and plaids if you’re one of the brave souls who can mix patterns effectively.
Animal Prints. Bold, fun, and undeniably striking, animal prints are back in a big way. If they suit your personality, now is the time to pick up something in leopard (or should we say jaguar), giraffe, or zebra.
With all these prints and textures, the silhouettes for many of this season’s offerings are pretty simple. That said, there’s quite a bit of a hippie or bohemian vibe to the 2016-2017 resort wear collections, particularly in the prints, patterns, and textures – which makes it perfect to wear at a vacation home or every day if you live in or visit the Caribbean or Central America – or anywhere with an equally perfect climate.
