In the past, yacht-bound submersibles have only been able to take a select few at a time, generally seating two or three lucky guests. Scheduling conflicts abound, seeing as how most yachts and superyachts are often carrying a number of passengers many times that amount.
Underwater explorers need fear no more. The new Triton 1000/7, fresh from the Vero Beach, Florida company Triton Submarines has expanded capacity options seating up to seven people. It can reach depths of 1,000 feet, allowing more ground to be covered with more people in tow. It was intended and designed to operate from cruise ships, yachts and tenders that have spacious and well-appointed tender garages. Its power thrusters push the vessel along at 3.5 knots and explorers can cruise around for a full 18 hours without recharging. As for price, the Triton 1000/7 clocks in at $4.9 million, though you’ll have to wait: delivery time now stands at around two years.
